Energy & Industry - related data of Austria
CO2 emissions in the Energy and Industry sector stem from various sub-sectors and sources. Further, process- and energy related emissions must be differntiated. Energy-related emissions stem from the classical burning of fossil fuels in order to produce power or heat. Process-related emissions are a by-product of industrial production processes and are not necessarily caused by fossil fuels (e.g., cement production).
The largest absolute contributions in this sector are emissions from electricity and district heat generation (mainly from natural gas), process- and energy related emissions in the iron and steel sector (coal and natural gas), energy related emissions of other industries such as pulp and paper (natural gas and oil), refineries (oil), and process-related emissions in the chemical industry (natural gas for ammonia production) and the mineral industry (cement and lime production).
